TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center today announced that it has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval(R) for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Certification. The Gold Seal of Approval(R) is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization's commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center underwent a rigorous on-site review on October 19, 2018. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with national disease-specific care standards as well as with total hip and total knee replacement surgery-specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures also were assessed.

Established in 2002 and awarded for a two-year period, The Joint Commission's Disease-Specific Care Certification evaluates clinical programs across the continuum of care and addresses three core areas:

  • Compliance with consensus-based national standards;
  • Effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and
  • An organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.

"TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center has thoroughly demonstrated a high level of care for patients receiving total hip and total knee replacement," said Patrick Phelan, executive director, Hospital Business Development, The Joint Commission. "We commend TriStar Hendersonville for becoming a leader in this area of care, potentially providing a higher standard of service for patients in its community."

"TriStar Hendersonville is pleased to receive this certification from The Joint Commission, the premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation," said Chief Executive Officer Regina Bartlett, TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center. "The certification provides us with the framework to provide the very best quality of care for knee and hip replacement surgery patients in our community."

"Achieving this certification was a coordinated effort among many service areas in the hospital - registration, the nursing teams in Same Day Surgery, the Operating Room, and 2West Nursing Unit, the anesthesia team, rehab team, and the orthopedic surgeons," said Matt Rose, MD, orthopedic surgeon and physician champion for TriStar Hendersonville Medical Center's orthopedic surgery committee. "The standard we have set enhances the overall surgery experience, provides rapid recovery, and gets our patients back to a higher quality of life with efficient, patient-centered care."
