If a screening mammography report recommends additional images, the patient is requested to return for a diagnostic mammogram and possibly a breast ultrasound (at the discretion of the breast radiologist). These additional images may include spot compression views or magnification views.

A diagnostic mammogram may also be performed in patients with breast symptoms or complaints (lump, thickening, focal pain, nipple discharge). In this case the standard images will be performed and supplemented with additional spot views.
